Event description
Indigenous environmental knowledge and Wild Rice processing and aquatic research workshop introducing research methods and activities.

About this Event

Free event at Plenty Canada, an Indigenous Environmental non-profit organization. Plenty Canada's mission is to bridge Indigenous environmental knowledge with western science. At this free event students will learn Indigenous environmental perspective and will be able to witness and/or participate in Wild Rice processing. There will also be a scientific workshop and activities for students interested in aquatic biology.

The scientific workshop focuses on Wild Rice (a keystone wetland species) and basic scientific techniques in aquatic research. Students will participate in activities where they will learn how to identify benthic invertebrates and have a chance to use aquatic research equipment for lake water quality testing. Volunteer research positions are available which may extend to summer paid internship opportunities (summer 2020). Therefore, students who are interested are encouraged to bring their resumes.

This event provides a great opportunity for students wanting to gain more knowledge or experience in the environmental and biological research field.

Special Notes:

- Snacks and a full lunch are provided. Vegetarian options will also be available.

- Small prizes are available to win during scientific activities.

*Please note that this event is held in Lanark Ontario, approximately 1 hour drive from Ottawa. Therefore, individuals are responsible to drive or car pool to and from this event.
