Infinite Games: Play and Possibility for Small Scene Composition

Composing images, particularly when photographing unfamiliar subjects, can seem like a daunting prospect. Anna will outline some key composition principles that don’t include the ‘rules’ that are typically taught. She will discuss how the concept of being playful, both in the field and at the post-processing stage, can open up possibilities for creating novel or unique images, and the ways in which we might consciously introduce play into our photography practices.

Anna Morgan is a British / Spanish (Basque) fine art landscape and nature photographer, educator, writer and advocate for ecological health who now calls Vancouver Island, Canada home.

After running her own veterinary practice for over a decade, Anna earned a Master of Veterinary Science degree in Conservation Medicine from The University of Edinburgh before transitioning into professional photography. Her research brought photography and conservation together so that photographic practice served both as a tool for reflective thinking and as a subject of research to bring a deeper understanding of the structural frameworks that underpin the premise of conservation photography.

Anna gravitates towards photographing quieter and more intimate scenes, along with abstract interpretations of the natural world. Her imagery reflects both her personality and her interest in the intricate interconnections of life on Earth. Her work often explores visual narratives that reside in the liminal landscapes of consciousness and co-generative, transformative change. Through personalised mentoring and individual or group workshops, Anna encourages ecological wholeness by fostering photographic practices rooted in connection, openness, and self-awareness.
