The ability to see patterns, reason flexibly, and think abstractly lies at the heart of innovation, and mathematics is one of the best training grounds for these skills. In this session, Dr. Nataliya Portman demonstrates how students flourish when math is learned in dialogue with others, an approach supported by insights from neuroscience. Dr. Portman is a data scientist with experience spanning neuroscience, biotechnology, materials science, digital media, and multiple start up software companies. This method, used in Brain Power’s enrichment programs alongside students’ regular day school studies, has consistently helped learners excel in national contests such as the AMC and Math Olympiad, as well as on standardized tests including the SAT, MCAT, and LSAT. Just as importantly, it equips young people to apply mathematical thinking across fields from science and technology to the humanities and daily decision making, preparing them to thrive as adaptable thinkers in an unpredictable world.

Takeaway: Families receive a Math Discovery Pack with puzzles and challenges—perfect for exploration at home or during travel over the holiday season.
