Imagine that we have succeeded in reversing global warming. Imagine that the strategies we employed have generated more employment, created greater equality, and that the quality of life of our city, province and country has improved in the process. Imagine that this process is not only eminently achievable in the present time, but is cost effective and practical, is already extant and can be scaled immediately.
To this end, Science for Peace invites you to an introduction to Project Drawdown that proposes nothing less. Author and environmentalist Paul Hawken has assembled a team of 200 scientists and researchers from all over the world to rank the 80 most promising existing strategies to reduce atmospheric carbon, based on the amount of carbon reduced, the cost of implementation and the money saved in the process. Among the most effective strategies are empowerment of women globally, reducing food waste and changing to a plant-based diet. Furthermore, they have shown that the money saved is many times greater than the cost of implementing the most promising strategies.
