KIRTAN by Candlelight at The Birdhouse
Overview
In the quiet space between the end of one year and the beginning of another, we gather.
After the hustle, the obligations, the consumption and the city pace that can sometimes overshadow the deeper spirit of the holidays, this evening is an invitation to pause — to rest, to remember, and to come together in a chosen, heart-led way.
This candlelit kirtan is a simple, intimate home gathering for neighbours, friends, and kindred souls — a pocket of time devoted to spirit, song, and community.
Now more than ever, gathering in person matters.
Beyond spiritual beliefs or political perspectives, we come together to remember that we belong to one another — and to this living planet. We are brothers and sisters by soul design.

What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is a traditional practice from the Bhakti yoga lineage, centred around call-and-response chanting of sacred mantras. You don’t need to know the words, the melodies, or how to “sing well.”
This is not about performance.
It’s about participation.
Through shared sound and rhythm, the mind softens, the nervous system settles, and presence gently takes the lead. As voices rise and fall together, something ancient awakens — a felt sense of unity, of shared heartbeat, of inner light being remembered through song.
You are welcome to sing loudly, softly, imperfectly — or simply listen and receive. If you have a voice, you belong.
About the Space: The Birdhouse
This gathering takes place at The Birdhouse — a home that has quietly become a place of meditation, healing, art, and community over the years. It’s a lived-in, love-held space where people come to exhale, soften, and feel less alone.
Candles will be lit.
Shoes off.
Come as you are.

About the Guide
Chelsey Mah is a Mantra and Medicine Music musician who has walked this devotional path for nearly a decade. What began during a deep season of grief became a daily return — to surrender, trust, and the quiet place where love gathers us back home.
Through her offerings, Chelsey shares kirtan as a way of shaping how we listen, how we soften, and how we meet life — with peace, presence, and an open heart.
This evening is a gentle co-creation between Chelsey and host Deseré Pressey, who has long held space through art, sound, and community gatherings rooted in love.
