Knitting Hats for Beginners
Overview
The next step after a beginner knitting class (making scarves) is working in the round, and the perfect project to do that is making HATS! Hats are fast, easy, and very, very satisfying!
We'll teach you how to cast on in the round, knit in the round, how to knit on double-pointed needles (the ones that look like little chopsticks), how to decrease stitches and how to read a pattern.
Class Date: Sunday January 25 and Feb 1: 10:30 am to 12 pm
Skill Level: Beginner (after scarves)
Prerequisites: You must already know how to cast on, knit and purl.
Hours of Instruction: 3 (1.5 hours on each of two days)
Materials: Materials are NOT included, but we sell everything you need and you receive 10% off all materials during your class.
- 1 ball of Drops Andes OR Estelle Colour Flair OR Gazzal Popcorn OR Cascade Spuntaneous
- 8mm/US10-16"(40cm) circular needles (wood or metal)
- 8mm/US10 double-pointed needles
- Bulky darning or tapestry needle
- NOTE:Gazzal Popcorn and Cascade Spuntaneous some of these yarns come in skeins and need to be wound into a ball before using, so please come to your first class a few minutes early, or have it done ahead of time (we can wind it for you, we've got a gadget but it takes 5 minutes).
Class Cancellation Policy
Class deposits are non-refundable. Knit-O-Matic requires at least 72 hours notice of your cancellation before the start of the class in order to transfer your class deposit over to another class. Students who cancel less than 72 hours before the start of class or do not show up for class will forfeit their class deposit.

Week 1
Cast on, join in the round, ribbing, work on body of hat and finish that section at home.
Week 2
Start decreasing in the round, change to double-pointed needles, continue decreasing, bind off, weave in ends.
