Get ready for an unforgettable outdoor experience with Lisa Roper Outdoors! We’re thrilled to welcome you to the 5th Annual Ladies on Ice Fishing Adventure on the breathtaking Lac La Biche Lake, Alberta, a two-day celebration of learning, laughter, and female empowerment on the ice!
From March 7th at 7:30 a.m. to March 8th at 2:00 p.m., join Lisa Roper and her passionate team of female volunteers for an experience designed to ignite your love for ice fishing, build confidence, and inspire lasting friendships. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or dropping your first line, you’ll gain hands-on skills, insider tips, and the knowledge to fish with confidence all season long.
Throughout the weekend, you’ll enjoy:
🎣 Interactive workshops on ice safety, gear setup, knot tying, and fishing fundamentals.
🌨️ Guided fishing sessions in warm, welcoming tents with mentorship from experienced female anglers.
🧡 Educational sessions led by female mentors in the industry, along with Fish and Wildlife Sheriffs and Conservation Officers, focusing on ethical and sustainable fishing practices.
🌿 A heartfelt opening ceremony led by an Indigenous Elder, sharing wisdom and teachings about the land and water we are honoured to fish on.
This adventure is about more than fishing; it’s about connection, confidence, and community. Together, we’re building a supportive space where women can learn, grow, and celebrate the power of the outdoors.
This event is open to women 18 and older (participants aged 16+ may attend if accompanied by a paid female adult).

Welcoming Ceremony & Opening Remarks
- Start your adventure with a warm welcome from Lisa Roper, celebrating International Women’s Day and setting an uplifting tone for the weekend.
- Experience a traditional opening ceremony led by a Community Indigenous Elder, who will share wisdom and teachings from the Cree and Métis cultures, honouring the rich history of Lac La Biche, located on Treaty 6 territory.

Ice Fishing Workstations
Join the excitement of hands-on learning as participants rotate through a series of engaging workstations! Each station is designed to build your confidence and expand your skills on the ice.
- Ice fishing fundamentals
- Gear and equipment familiarization
- Using electronics for locating fish
- Ice safety protocols
- Fish filleting
- Proper catch-and-release techniques
- Rods, reels, and knot tying
- Advanced ice fishing techniques

- Throughout the day, you’ll also hear from female Conservation Officers, Fish and Wildlife Sheriffs who share their expertise on ethical and sustainable fishing practices.

It's time to put your new skills to the test! Spend the afternoon fishing on Lac La Biche Lake, applying everything you've learned as you experience the thrill of the catch. Our incredible volunteer team will be right there beside you, ready to offer guidance, answer questions, and help you feel confident and comfortable every step of the way.

Yes, you must purchase a fishing licence before the event starts. You can do so at https://www.albertarelm.com/
Fishing Gear:
Don't have any fishing gear? No worries, we have everything you need. If you have your own, we encourage you to bring it.
Accommodations: Let them know you are with Ladies On Ice
Ramada by Wyndham: A discounted rate ($169.00/night) under Lisa Roper Outdoors at Ramada - Lac La Biche. Each room has two queen beds. This hotel also has a pool and hot tub. Don't hesitate to contact them at 780-623-2250 to book your room.
The Ramada Lac La Biche is located on Hwy 36. The fishing event is about a 15-minute drive away.
The BCMInns: There is no discounted rate assigned this year. ($199.00/night). Each room has two queen beds and a kitchenette. Don't hesitate to contact them at 780-623-1888.
BCMInns—Lac La Biche is just off Hwy 663, next to Boston Pizza. The fishing event is about a 12-minute drive away.
Want to Sleep on the Ice?
If you prefer to stay overnight on the ice, we are available to help you set up your fishing tent.
Food:
Hot lunch, light snacks, and hot drinks will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, please bring your own lunch. We will provide a menu at a later date.
What to Bring:
A little preparation goes a long way toward staying warm and comfortable on the ice! Here’s what we recommend bringing along for your adventure:
- Lawn chair
- Sunscreen
- Non-alcoholic beverages
- Extra snacks
- Extra socks
- Warm winter boots
- Ice cleats (if you feel unsteady on the ice)
- Layered clothing — dress in layers so you can easily adjust for warmth and comfort throughout the day
Pro tip: A small backpack or tote bag helps keep your essentials organized and easy to carry between workstations and fishing tents.
Can I bring my family?
There are plenty of activities and things your family can enjoy in Lac La Biche while you are at the Ladies On Ice Fishing Adventure:
- It's the 3rd Annual Elks on ICE!! Saturday, March 7th, 2026! On the ice at the Sir Winston Churchill Park boat launch from 10 am to 2 pm. Enjoy free hot dogs, hamburgers and hot drinks! Free Ice fishing rods to youth 18 and under while quantities last. Volunteers will be there to help teach tying hooks and basic ice-fishing techniques for those who aren't familiar with ice fishing. There will be fire pits and picnic tables for hanging out and socializing.
- There are all types of activities and fun to be had at the Bold Centre.
- They can also enjoy the public pool and hot tub at Portage College.
- Enjoy some time at the Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes.
- Take in the Lac La Biche Museum and learn the history of the town.

Tickets are non-refundable; however, they can be transferred to another female participant at any time. Please email us if you transfer your ticket.
Volunteers will be there to help teach tying hooks and fishing basics for those who aren't familiar with ice fishing.
