Portage College Public Legal Education Program and Little Warriors invite you to attend a FREE live online facilitator led interactive Prevent It! workshop via Zoom. Prevent It! is an evidence-based educational workshop developed in conjunction with researchers at the University of Alberta. The Indigenous-focused Prevent It! workshop was created with contributions and insights from various Indigenous communities throughout Canada, exploring historical and colonial trauma and its effects on Indigenous children and families.

Did you know?:

  • Experts estimate that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience sexual abuse.
  • 95% of those children will know and trust their perpetrator.

The Prevent It! workshop provides participants with a toolkit for change:

  • What to watch for and concerning signs
  • Grooming
  • Internet Safety
  • Identifying and avoiding high risk situations
  • When and how to start conversations about child sexual abuse
  • How to use everyday situations to initiate conversations
  • How to react to a child who may be disclosing abuse
  • Child Protection Laws and how to report child sexual abuse
  • Resources such as reading materials, checklists and information visuals

⭕Who should take this workshop?: ALL parents, professionals and volunteers who care for, work or interact with Indigenous children.

⭕All participants receive a comprehensive workbook and certificate of attendance.

⭕The Prevent It! Workshop is approved for 3 hours of professional development and release time funding through the Alberta Child Care Grant Funding Program.


Please note:

  • This webinar deals with topics which may cause trauma to participants due to its troubling subject matter. The organizers recognize the need for safety measures to minimize the risks associated with traumatic subject matter.
  • Individuals can access the Hope for Wellness Help Line at 1-855-242-3310, or connect to the online chat through their website should you need support. Hope for Wellness Helpline is available 24/7 to all Indigenous people across Canada.
  • Also, the Mental Health Help Line (1-877-303-2642) is a 24 hour, 7 day a week confidential service that provides support, information and referrals to Albertans experiencing mental health concerns. Visit alberta.ca/mentalhealth.
  • Our PLE program is funded to provide free workshops to Albertans. As such, priority will be given to Alberta residents. If you live outside of Alberta and register, please be advised that your registration may be waitlisted should capacity be reached.
