On December 12, 2017, Bill 139, Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017, received Royal Assent, and will come into effect on April 3, 2018. The new Act makes a number of changes to the process for seeking and appealing land use planning approvals throughout Ontario.

As a result of Bill 139, the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) is preparing to become the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) upon proclamation.

In preparation for this transition, we are preparing draft Rules of Practice and Procedure for LPAT, which will be posted on our website on March 2, 2018 for your comments and feedback.

Our webinar will take a closer look at these changes, and we will be presenting and answering questions on LPAT’s new processes and how current and future cases will be affected.

The “Local Planning Appeal Tribunal: A Primer” webinar will include the following presentations:

  • Key Elements of LPAT’s Function in the Ontario Planning Process

  • Rules Changes: LPAT and Local Planning Appeal Tribunal Act

  • Filing an LPAT appeal – what’s the same and what’s new

The presentations will be available for download on our website before the webinars take place. A video of the webinar will also be posted on our website at a later date for those unable to join the live-stream.

You must sign up ahead of time to join into the webinar. A teleconference number will be provided, as well as a link to join the webinar.

Questions can be submitted in advance via email to ELTO.CLO@ontario.ca or during the webinar.
