Hamilton Audio Visual Node:
From 2012–2020, Hamilton Audio Visual Node (HAVN) was located just off James Street North at 26 Barton Street East. Envisioned as a multi-modal node for developing and exhibiting sound, image, and ideas, HAVN was a site for artistic experimentation and exchange. Over eight years, the artists involved used the space for their own practices, as well as hosting an expansive range of creative projects from hundreds of local and international artists. HAVN thrived through a strong DIY ethos, with a core commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming feminist space for artists often excluded from mainstream platforms. The HAVN Memory Project involves collecting memories (primarily as audio recordings) from some of the widely diverse regionally-based artists who were part of this artistic collective.
