Made in China: meet Alia & Jamil Juma of JUMA Studio

By WNDRLND by IDFK

Overview

A visit with JUMA Studio at WNDRLND, blending sustainable design and cross-continental creativity in China’s new era of innovation.

This Saturday at 2 PM, WNDRLND hosts Alia and Jamil Juma of JUMA Studio for an afternoon exploring their two-decade-plus journey from Toronto to their boutique factory, retail space, art gallery, and community bar in Dalian, a bustling coastal city in the Northeast of China.

Over coffee and cookies, they’ll discuss how JUMA transforms recycled water bottles into fashion and home pieces, their cross-cultural collaborations, and their newest project with Chinese designer Ezzat: a hybrid mini-tote and plush Bastet inspired by the Egyptian cat deity and carrying the same collectible allure that elevated Labubu to cultural stardom.

Their story also reflects a larger shift, as “Made in China” has evolved from a mark of the disposable into proof of an unprecedented cultural and technological renaissance that now draws global artists, designers, and innovators to build their brands and their lives there.
