Description
Making the Global Goals Local: The Sustainable Development Goals in Squamish
In 2015, the United Nations voted unanimously to adopt Agenda 2030 - an ambitious and transformational vision for a better future for all. At the core of this vision are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Join us for an evening of conversation and refreshments as we explore the Sustainable Development Goals and what they could mean for Squamish. Through interactive dialogue, we will prioritize the goals, recognize areas in which Squamish is excelling and identify areas where there are challenges or barriers to action.
This event is open to interested citizens, as well as representatives from nonprofit organizations, government, business, academia and all other types of organization. Come wearing as many hats as you like!
.
Hosted in partnership with Community Accelerators, Outdoor Explore and Align Collective
Facilitated by Kathleen Lane, MBA and Olivia Allen
As a management consultant, Kathleen works with impact-focused businesses and not-for-profits to develop leadership capacity and to support strategic and operational planning. She became interested in the Sustainable Development Goals a year ago, and last summer had the opportunity to attend the United Nation's SDG business forum in New York. Building on this experience, she has facilitated conversations on the SDGs at both UBC and at the HiVE co-working space in Vancouver, and recently completed Gaia Education's SDG Training of Multipliers program.
Olivia is a social-environmental consultant offering project coordination, youth engagement, social/environmental education and grant writing services to NGOs. After completing her BSc in Environmental Science Olivia was eager to share her learnings with others and pursued a career in environmental education. She became interested in the SDG's when she attended a Water Innovation Lab in India with her current employer, Waterlution. Olivia is particularly interested in implementing projects for community well-being, she is currently piloting a brewery waste upcycling contest, called Sustain-a-brew, where community members upcycle malt bags and win gift cards to Squamish-based craft beverage businesses.
Join us for consideration of the future!
