Managing Distressed Behaviour – In-Person Training
Join us at Kwantlen Polytechnic University – Langley Campus for a full day of practical learning focused on supporting individuals experiencing significant distress. This in-person course, presented by ACT – Autism Community Training, introduces evidence-informed, non-confrontational strategies to prevent and respond to distressed behaviours.

Parents, caregivers, family members, professionals, and autistic youth and adults.
Level: Beginner to Advanced
What You Will Learn
Participants will explore a comprehensive framework for understanding and safely supporting distressed behaviour, including:
- Legal issues and the role of policies
- Carers’ tolerance levels and responses
- Causes behind distressed behaviour
- Introduction to Low Arousal Approaches (interaction, defusing & distraction strategies)
- Introduction to Debriefing (why it is essential and how to do it)
- Coping with distressed behaviour
- Managing vs. changing behaviours
This training emphasizes practical, low-stress techniques to enhance confidence and create safer, more supportive environments.
