Matthew Gillespie with The Aaron Booth Band Live at The Attic Bar & Stage
Overview
Matt Gillespie in a nutshell:
Folky and quirky.
Influenced by storytellers and songwriters like Gillian Welch, The Smiths, Midlake, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Townes Van Zant, Neutral Milk Hotel, Dawes, Leonard Cohen, Wilco.
Notable and diverse figures in the Alberta music scene have praised Gillespie’s songwriting. Tim Leacock described Gillespie’s songs and lyrics as cinematic. Bob Chelmick of CKUA said Gillespie’s song “Wetaskiwin” is a “very fine character sketch”. Another song, “Peel From The Birch”, has received ample airplay on CJSW’s esteemed Blues program “At The Crossroads”. Carter Felker calls Gillespie the White Whale, which may be interpreted in a number of different ways but we’ll stick with “rare and prized” for the purpose of this promo plug.
