About this event
Are you an experienced scyther or a scythe- curious newbie? Want to make hay while the sun shines? Join us, ORSN & FolkCamp, at Topsy Farms on Amherst Island in Ontario to learn about scythes, scything and hay making the old-fashioned way.
We will also be celebrating our various traditions of harvest time, including Lammas (loaf-mass -Anglo-saxon "hlaf-mass" ) or Lughnasadh (The assembly of the sun-god Lugh) in Gaelic

Arrive Topsy Farm. Camp Set up and Evening Meal
Saturday 30th July
6am-9am Scything In The Meadow -its going to be hot so to maximise scything time we need to get up early on Sat & Sun! 9am-10:30am Breakfast10:30-12:00 Introduction to the scythe- history, use, blade types12:00-2:00 Lunch/ Siesta 2:00-4:00pm Sharpening and Peening 4-6 Craft activities for Lammas/Harvest Festival on Sunday 6:00 Dinner 7:00 Evening Entertainment inc Music and Storytelling (BYO!!)

6:00-9:00am Scything and Haymaking 9:00-10:30 Breakfast 10:30- 12:00pm Haymaking Theory, Grass ID12-2 Lunch-Siesta B pm Lammas/Harvest Gathering

You will need to bring your own camping gear and supplies for meals, but we will aim for communal dining on Friday and Saturday evening.
