Mushrooms
Overview
Instructor: Donna Kurt
Donna Kurt’s Mushroom Discovery workshop has evolved over the past 15 years while presented at the Assiniboine Park Conservancy and Nature Manitoba to provide a hands-on experience using her mushrooming fungarium and 4 decades of mushroom photographs. The workshop covers identification of a variety of popular edible and medicinal mushrooms common to Manitoba and NW Ontario, differentiation from their non-edible or toxic look-a-likes, various aspects of their evolved relationships to other species as well as cultivation, preparation, and safety.
Donna is a 33 year NM member, canoe trip leader, canoeing instructor, telecommunications technologist, Permaculture Designer, security guard, and amateur photographer, in addition to being an avid amateur mycologist and ethnobotanist. Donna has volunteered to lead Thanksgiving canoe trips to Mantario since 1989 as well as numerous summer program trips. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of fungi and mushrooms learned the past four decades during various year round outdoor activities as well as from Dr. David Punter’s NM mushroom workshops, self studies, University biology courses, and Elders.
