Empanadas Ilegales

Empanadas Ilegales mixes rhythmic cumbia, hypnotic guitar riffs, and salsa-spiced trumpet & sax, with surf rock, free jazz and West Coast psychedelia.

Based in Vancouver, BC, their resonant roots from Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Canada combine to deliver a dedicated tribute to cumbia deep-cuts. Recorded across three different phases and studios, it’s a trifecta of experimental synth sounds, slinky dub grooves and dynamic percussion. Sancocho Trifásico represents the creation - and celebration - of Latin American dance music across time and space, inspiring convivial gathering in every note.
