Winter Hike at Spring Arbour Farm Nature Reserve
Short Notice – Weather May Be Wintry!
Bundle up and join us for a refreshing winter hike at Spring Arbour Farm Nature Reserve, a remarkable example of environmental regeneration and conservation. This 49-acre property, donated by Joan Shirlow in memory of Ken McMullen, has been protected by the Long Point Basin Land Trust since January 31, 2018. It showcases diverse ecosystems including Oak Savanna, Early Successional Forest, and Carolinian Forest.
Ken and Joan transformed what was once an exhausted farm into a thriving organic fruit and vegetable operation, adding windbreaks, native plant buffers, and restoring the soil. Today, this land serves as a nature reserve and an important migratory stopover for birds, Monarch butterflies, and bats.
