Legislative assemblies play an essential role in democratic life. However, citizen involvement within them can be limited by a number of factors. On the one hand, the mechanisms that enable members of the public to participate actively in parliamentary institutions remain largely unknown. On the other hand, difficulties accessing institutions and parliamentarians limit the development of an in-depth understanding of their inner workings. This seminar will therefore examine these issues and look at how institutions can facilitate both citizen engagement within them and the study of how they operate.

Les assemblées législatives jouent un rôle essentiel dans la vie démocratique. Toutefois, l’implication citoyenne au sein de celles-ci peut être limitée par plusieurs facteurs. D’une part, les mécanismes qui permettent une participation active des membres du public au sein des institutions parlementaires demeurent largement méconnus. D’autre part, les difficultés d’accès aux institutions et aux parlementaires limite le développement d’une compréhension approfondie de leur fonctionnement. Ce séminaire examinera donc ces enjeux et s’intéressera à la manière dont les institutions peuvent faciliter à la fois l’engagement citoyen en leur sein et l’étude de leur fonctionnement.
