Overview

Talk #12 of the Bridging Minds: Health and Science Conversations series

Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of arthritis, and the number of people affected continues to grow. While research has significantly advanced our understanding of what causes osteoarthritis, who is most at risk, and how it affects daily life, persistent myths and misunderstandings still create barriers to receiving timely, effective care.

What to expect:

· Understanding the Risks: Explore the key factors and risks that contribute to osteoarthritis and why more people are developing it.

· Impact Beyond the Joints: Gain insight into the impact osteoarthritis has on quality of life, including how it influences people’s ability to manage other health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

· How to Manage Symptoms & Exercise: Discover practical strategies for managing osteoarthritis symptoms, including the important role physical activity and exercise play in treatment.

Dr. Gillian Hawker is a clinician scientist and staff rheumatologist at Women’s College Hospital.
