Outgoing Generation: Driving the bumpy road of farm succession

By County of Wellington

Overview

A workshop for the outgoing generation of farmers navigating the biggest change of their lives - farm succession.

The Bumpy Road from Farm Advisor to CEO

A workshop for the outgoing generation of farmers navigating the biggest change of their lives - farm succession. Whether you are stepping back from farming entirely or need to know how to get out of the way without leaving the farm, this will be a day to learning how to lean into your new roles and priorities, and deal with the next generation. Features a panel of retired farmers, and a financial planner who will share their own emotional potholes, stories of when they hit the ditches and talk about smoother, fun ways to drive down this new road of life.

Lunch, coffee, and tea provided. Plus, all participants will be entered into a draw to win a Family Farm Video from Loft 32 (to be completed by April 2026).

With nearly 40 per cent of Canadian farmers expected to retire in the next eight years and only 10.5 per cent of local farms having written succession plans, Wellington County has launched supports to help farming families navigate this critical period of transition. Wellington County’s new programme offers families a variety of resources, including a practical planning guide. Learn more at www.wellington.ca/transitionplanning.
