PD Day at AWE: STEAM City

Looking for a fun and creative way to spend a PD Day?

Youth ages 6-12 are invited to the gallery for a full day of hands-on artmaking, exhibition tours, and outdoor activities. Each PD Day focuses on a different artistic technique and medium, giving participants the chance to learn new skills, explore the galleries, and spark their imagination in our education studio!

The program is led by AWE’s team of Artist Educators and includes both guided and self-guided activities. Our programs include art-making activities in the studio, guided lessons, lunch and snack break and outdoor play.

January 16, 2026: STEAM City

Working together, campers will design and construct a model city using found materials, engineering, and problem-solving. Using a combination of traditional art supplies and cardboard boxes, bottles, empty containers, and more, we’ll transform what is seemingly garbage into a beautiful space. 

What you'll learn and make:

1. Creative Map-Making: Sketch out your city plan and decide where all your awesome buildings will go. 
2. City Building & Sculpting: Turn found materials into structures and sculptures. Learn how to make buildings strong and colourful!
3. Mural Design & Street Art: Create tiny murals and graffiti art to bring your city’s walls to life and show off its unique style.
