Event description

Description

A melting pot of circumpolar and calypso music featuring:

Looee Arreak - an award winning Inuktitut singer songwriter originally from Pangnirtung. Looee is passionate about Inuit language preservation and creativity. She has released two albums, has toured all over Nunavut Nunavik and is covered by young Inuktitut musicians who look up to her as a mentor.

Ranky Tanky - This Charleston, South Carolina based quintet unites celebrated musicians from the South Carolina low country, most of whom trace their roots directly back to a unique African American culture called Gullah.

Elisapie Isaac needs no introduction to Iqaluit - she has throngs of diehard fans who will be thrilled to see her again. Last here in 2013, Elisapie returns with her music that explores the duality between sensitive woman and ferocious spirit that lives within her.

Kobo Town - At once brooding and joyous, intensely poetic and highly danceable, Gonsalves’ songs betray a deep interest in Caribbean folk music backed by the indomitable energy of his band. Kobo Town’s dynamic performances have earned them a considerable following beyond the niche world of calypso fans.
