Prairie Party- Downsview Park Stewardship Day

The tallgrass prairie is coming back thanks to the Downsview Park Tallgrass Project. To celebrate Downsview Park is throwing a Prairie Party, an afternoon of free outdoor stewardship activities.
Participation is free, pre-registration is required for the following scheduled activities:
1:00 - 2:00 pm Gardening for Birds, Butterflies and Beyond with Toronto Region Conservation: Helping the environment starts in your own backyard. Learn how to attract and protect native species, such as Monarch butterflies, nesting songbirds and hummingbirds with beautiful landscape features. Participants will receive a free copy of the Creating Habitat Guide.
2:00 - 3:30 pm - Prairie Planting with Tallgrass Ontario: Get active and help to establish an endangered ecosystem
3:30 - 5:00 pm - Birds in the Open Nature Walk with Bird Studies Canada: Discovery why Downsview Park's open habitats has helped make Downsview Park a birding "Hotspot"
The Prairie Party will also have a number of ongoing drop-in activities from 1 - 5 pm that do not require pre-registration. These include:
Prairie Campfire: A Prairie Party isn’t complete without fire; roast a marshmallow and discovery the secret ingredient behind the tallgrass prairie.
Farm Tour with Fresh City Farms: Join a Fresh City Farms farmer on a farm tour. Farm tours will start at the greenhouses and will occur every hour from 1 - 4:00 pm.
Toronto Beekeeper's Collective: Meet a beekeeper and learn about the bees that call Downsview Park home
Start your Prairie Party by signing in at the registration table at the 70 Canuck rear door entrance.
TTC: Get off at a Keele/Sheppard bus and enter Downsview Park using the pedestrian path that starts at the southeast corner of the Keele and Sheppard intersection.
Limited free parking is available adjacent to 70 Canuck Avenue.
Please dress appropriately. Rain or shine.
All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
