This interactive session is designed to increase individual and institutional capacity to prevent sexual violence and provide support to people who have experienced sexual violence. It is tailored to meet the specific needs of staff working in medical colleges and other health care professionals. It covers the following information:
- SACE services
- Core facts related to Sexual Violence (common dynamics between people involved, prevalence rates, rate of false reports etc.)
- Key definitions (sexual assault, consent, coercion)
- An exploration of what sexual violence can look like in health and medical settings
- Information on providing safer spaces for clients
- Responding skills for supporting someone who's experienced sexual violence
- Community referral agencies and strategies
This session will take place in the Boardroom at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE).
Please note that the session runs over lunchtime. Light refreshments will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own bag lunches to eat during the session.

The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that works to provide wraparound support for children adolescents and adults who have experienced sexual violence through crisis support, counselling, court support, and advocacy, and further to foster prevention of sexual violence through direct public education and advisory consultation with groups and agencies undertaking their own prevention efforts.
