Queer and Trans Mathematicians in Combinatorics Conference
Event Information
About this event
The Queer and Trans Mathematicians in Combinatorics Conference (QTMC) is the first-ever event in combinatorics specifically aimed at queer and trans mathematicians! This two-day virtual conference will showcase the work of LGBTQ+ mathematicians in all areas of combinatorics and related topics. To promote collaboration and sharing, talks will be aimed at a general combinatorial audience. The schedule includes ample breaks for discussion among participants.
The goal of QTMC is to bring visibility to an often-invisible minority within mathematics, and cultivate a sense of community among LGBTQ+ mathematicians. Research shows that queer and trans mathematicians are less likely to be out at work than their counterparts in the life sciences, physical sciences, or social sciences; and that retention rates for queer students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are lower than for their heterosexual peers. QTMC aims to address these disparities by offering LGBTQ+ mathematicians a safer space to share their research, network, and find collaborators, all in a safer space that promotes a sense of belonging in math. While the event is intended to celebrate and support LGBTQ+ mathematicians, allies are welcome to attend.
If you are interested in presenting at the conference, please submit your abstract by May 10, 2021 using the same e-mail address used to register here (please wait 24-48hrs after registering). https://portal.fields.utoronto.ca/submit-abstract
