Event description

Description

There are two courses available...

1. Reconciling Biomechanics with Pain Science is a two day course and will be run on Saturday and Sunday (details below).

2. Running assessment, re-education and rehabilitation is a one day course that will occur on the Friday before the weekend course: From 9:00-16:00.

Those interested have the option of attending both or just one of the courses above. Registration is separate

Course Descriptions

Course #1: Standard Reconciling Biomechanics with Pain Science Course Description

At its simplest, this is a BIOMECHANICS and PAIN SCIENCE course. Ideally, we've distilled the best of both to get the best approach to pain and injury management.

This course has been taught throughout the world with the aim of simplifying the biomechanical approach to injury and pain management. A simplified, yet strongly evidenced based biomechanical approach, allows the therapist to develop skills that address all areas of the biopsychosocial contributors to the pain experience.

This course teaches When Biomechanics Matters and fits this approach into Therapeutic Neuroscience Education framework.

Traditional rehabilitation practice is steeped in the biomedical model of treating pain and injuries. While the biopyschosocial model of care is touted as being the superior approach it is often difficult to incorporate traditional biomechanical training within this model. There is the fear that therapists become psychotherapists. The aim of this course is to help reconcile and reconceptualize the biomechanical approach. You will learn that you need not throw the baby out with the bath water when you embrace the biopsychosocial (BPS) approach. Remember, the BPS model starts with "Bio": you will learn how biomechanics matters and how pain science education and cognition changing can fit together.

Special topics include:

- finding the key messages of pain science for specific patient needs

- "just load it" and "comprehensive capacity" - an evidenced based and simplified approach to exercise program

- symptom modification and graded exposure reconceptualizing of manual therapy and exercise prescription

This course is great for anyone working with people in pain or injuries. Physiotherapists, Chiros, Massage Therapists , Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Sport Therapists, Movement Pros/Teachers and Strength Coaches are welcome.

Course #2: Running assessment, re-education and rehabilitation - Building the Resilient Runner

This one-day practical course is an introduction to best-practice management of the injured runner. The course emphasis is on the manipulation of load and stress management in our injured patients and integrates running biomechanical principles within the biopsychosocial framework.

Participants will learn the modifiable running injury risk factors and means of modifying those risk factors. The biomechanics of running, how those biomechanics relate to injury and how those biomechanics can be changed will be taught. Participants will become very comfortable and proficient in performing a treadmill analysis of a runner’s technique. Both video examples of treadmill analyses and in person treadmill analyses will occur throughout the one day course.

An evaluation of the tendon pathology and how tendon loading protocols can drive injury management will be reviewed.

Bottom line, you will be comfortable performing gait analyses and changing a runner’s technique to elicit positive changes by the end of the day. Exercise prescription will reinforce those changes and improve injury management. You will be comfortable changing an injured runner’s routine to keep them running and will gain proficiency in designing training programs that also function as rehabilitation programs.

Cancellation Policy & Possible Course Cancellation

Very rarely a course is cancelled due to lack of interest. We typically make this decision about 4 weeks out from the course. If you are making travel arrangements it may be best to wait until this time.

Because we know that plans change refunds available if cancelled 3 weeks or more before the course starting date.
