Rest in January: What Your Body Knows That The Calendar Doesn't
Overview
We’re living in a culture of constant motion. Learn how to reclaim rest as an essential part of how you live and lead.
Join us for a gentle and thought-provoking conversation as we explore the role of rest in our lives and leadership — especially in January, when “new year, new goals” energy can feel at odds with what our bodies actually need. While the calendar urges us to speed up, the natural world is still in deep winter: a season of cocooning, quiet, and conserving energy.
Our guest, Miranda Brooking, will share her lived experience of burnout and stress leave, and how slowing down to listen to her body changed the way she works, leads, and rests. Along that journey she discovered that sleep is only one part of the picture, and that there are seven different types of rest that can support us in more sustainable ways.
Rest is more than simply stopping. It is how we restore ourselves so we can keep showing up for the people, projects, and communities we care about. Rest is wisdom. Rest is capacity. Rest is part of how we create change.
Whether rest feels unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or like something you “never have time for,” you’re invited to explore this topic with us in a welcoming and supportive space.
Join us as we:
- Explore the tension between January’s push for productivity and winter’s call to slow down
- Look at how burnout can be a sign we’ve been overriding our body’s signals
- Discover the seven types of rest and how to recognise which one you’re most depleted in
- Learn simple, realistic ways to weave moments of rest into your day, beyond just getting more sleep
The Zoom room will be open a few minutes early, for introductions and networking.
