Overview

Parent-Educator Communication: A Conversation on Challenges, Successes & Advocacy

Join the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for a Focus Group conversation for Parents, Guardians & Caregivers of the OCSB!

We’re inviting parents and caregivers to take part in a Focus Group Conversation about Strategies for Enhancing Communication between Parents and Educators. This will be an opportunity to share your experiences, both the challenges and what’s worked well, when it comes to communicating with your child’s school. Together, we’ll explore key roadblocks, how families share important information with educators, and what happens when differences arise. We’ll also reflect on the role of mutual respect, positive language, active listening, and cultural sensitivity in building strong, collaborative relationships. Finally, we’ll discuss what it looks like to move from communication to advocacy when conversations aren’t leading to the support your child needs.

Your insights and experiences are vital to us, and we are eager to hear from you as we work together to support all students. Please note, this event is exclusively for parents, guardians, and caregivers, and will not be led or attended by staff. It is a safe space for you to openly share your thoughts, experiences, and feedback.

The goal of this focus group is for SEAC to gather valuable insights that will inform our advice and recommendations to the school board, ensuring they reflect the unique needs of our community. To maintain privacy, we kindly ask that you refrain from mentioning specific staff members, schools, or children.

SEAC is excited to learn from your experiences and collaborate with you to better support our community.
