Social Media for Scientists: How to Build Strong Online Presence

Social media is a powerful platform for scientists to connect, collaborate and mobilize the community. From #distractinglysexy to #DontAskAlice, social media has been an important catalyst for positive change in the community. Hence, building a personal brand through strong and authentic online presence is key to communicating your science to the public, making connections and gaining competitive edge. If you’re not up with the times, you will lag behind your peers!

This hands-on session, co-facilitated by social media strategist Lina Duque and Dean Imogen Coe, will show you how to craft a personal brand, make connections in your field and network with influencers in science.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Build a profile on Twitter, increase your following and network with scientists and influencers
  • Create a compelling profile on LinkedIn and use it strategically as a thought leadership platform
  • Use social media to bring media attention to your work
  • Learn about the importance of business cards

After the workshop you will have an opportunity to get your head-shot taken. If interested, please come dressed in professional attire.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop.
