Overview

Learn the fundamentals of movement as well as tips and tricks to be regular at and confident in the gym. 2 Sundays: Jan 17/25 2-5pm.

If you’ve ever thought “I want to go to the gym, I just don’t know how to start”, then this workshop is for you.

Whether you're walking in for the first time or returning after a stint away, the gym can feel intimidating, expecant and overwhelming.
Rather than making any promises or telling you what to do, we want to teach you how to move in your body and how to put together a solid workout for yourself, so that two of the biggest things that you need in the gym space are addressed when you show up!
And further we're going to talk about how to interact with people at the gym to make sure you're getting what you need during the time you're there. Things like how to ask to 'work in' on equipment with people (sharing!), how to ask for help, general hygiene, and ettiquette.

Over two weeks, you can expect to cover:
• How to do basic gym movements (squats, presses, hinge/deadlift, etc)
• How gyms work and what to expect when you walk in
• How to use free weights and some machines safely
• How to choose weights and progess safely
• How to put together or identify a useful program for your needs
• How to follow the program that you're walking into the gym with

3Wave Fitness works out of Fit on 6th in New West, a boutique gym. This is a closed series in a private gym space, so while the emphasis in on creating more openness to the busy commercial gym, your experience here will be safe and contained with a trauma-informed instructor and is focused on skill-building. We pride ourselves on being supportive to communities who may not feel comfortable in the gym space.

This is a small, in person group class with a lead instructor and and assistant, so we believe we are creating a beginner-friendly and practical environment. You can look forward to more individualized attention and have many of your questions answered. There will also be a coaching element involved for the teaching of the movements as each person will need slightly different variations for their current circumstance.

Our hope is that by the end of this event you're able to feel confident and capable going into the gym! Wanting to change is noble and if we can help you on that journey, then we're so grateful for your time and trust!
