STEPS and City of Brampton: LIVE Virtual Community Feedback Session

By STEPS Public Art
Online event

Overview

Join us in this live feedback session to learn more about the shortlisted artist proposals and share your thoughts!

What is Happening?

The City of Brampton has renamed two local parkettes and seeks to commission new public artwork from Indigenous artists or artist teams. This new artwork should respond to the natural environment of the space and also connect to the meanings of the new parkette names. Examples of activations include landscaping elements and/or functional artwork or park infrastructure elements.

Three (3) artists or artist teams have been shortlisted and have created detailed proposals. Now is your chance to let us know which one resonates most with you, and why!

How To Get Involved

Join us in this live feedback session to learn more about the shortlisted artist proposals and share your thoughts. Staff from the City of Brampton's Cultural Programming and Equity teams and STEPS Public Art will be present to answer any of your questions.

We encourage members of the Indigenous community, along with residents of Ward 5, who use Bangan and Mashkiki Parettes, to attend and share their thoughts.

How We Will Use Your Input

Your feedback will be shared with the City of Brampton and will aid in their selection of the final commissioned artist or artist team. The project will also incorporate a mentorship component by involving a local emerging artist who can assume the role of assistant to the selected artist or artist team in the fabrication and installation of the artwork (this mentee will be paid by the City of Brampton and not come out of the selected artists or artist team’s budget).

What We Are Looking to Learn

We want to learn which artwork resonates most with you, and why!

  • Would you be excited to see this artwork?
  • Do you think the artwork aligns with the programming to create community, a place to gather, to connect and provide exposure to knowledge and creativity?
  • How does the proposed artwork make you feel?
