Stories that Connect: Ancestral Journalling & Bookbinding Workshop

By McMaster Museum of Art

Overview

A two-part self-reflective bookmaking and journalling workshop , in reflection to Meryl McMaster’s nikihci-âniskotâpân/bloodline.

As a two-part activity in connection to Meryl McMaster’s nikihci-âniskotâpân/bloodline, participants will be binding and customizing their own ancestral journal, which will then be used as reflection activity to personalize their own interpretations of past, present and future whilst referencing motifs and elements from the exhibition. Materials will be provided.

For the first 45-60 minutes, you will be guided to collate a hard cover of your choosing, which is followed by gluing the pages onto the hard cover for a solid hardcover journal finish. The rest of the time can be of your choice to customize, whether that is through collage, drawing, or stamps.

After finishing your hardcovers, participants will be introduced to the elements, themes and motifs used in the exhibition, encouraging you to reflect on your own interpretations of ancestral connection; the presence of those around us, the connections that we carry spiritually, through an emotional bond, or through legacy, if not through shared memories that transcend beyond physical presence and time.
