The Couple & Family Therapy Centre, Centre for Families, Work & Well-Being, and the Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition are pleased to offer a 1-day workshop designed for professionals engaged in providing services to parents or children from families with high-conflict. This dynamic day will focus on various strategies for shifting the troubling dynamics in individuals, couples and families with high- conflict. It will offer several techniques for connecting with them (EAR Statements), helping them communicate more clearly by email (using BIFF Responses), analyzing decision-making options (Making Proposals), and helping them with setting limits.
Our esteemed workshop leader is Bill Eddy, an attorney, therapist, mediator, and the President of the High Conflict Institute based in San Diego. Bill is the developer of the New Ways for Families method for helping families experiencing high-conflict, which is being implemented in several family court systems in the U.S. and Canada.
This 1-day program will focus on methods for engaging with individuals and couples together in conflict resolution settings (such as mediation) and teaching parents communication and self-management skills. There will be practice exercises for learning how to assist people from high-conflict families in person and in writing. We will also address the dynamics of high-conflict personalities in dealing with domestic violence and alienation issues.
This workshop is being offered as part of the Family Law and Justice Communities of Practice. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
