Join us for an evening with Dr. Naoki Yamamoto, distinguished scholar of Ottoman Sufism and traditional Japanese arts. Drawing from his spiritual journey, Dr. Yamamoto explores how his Japanese roots harmonize with his new faith—revealing the subtle connections between Turkish Sufi spirituality and Japanese aesthetics.

Through the Japanese tea ceremony and Japanese calligraphy, he invites us into a space where spirit of Ihsan and Japanese aesthetics meet: in discipline, harmony, and the quiet pursuit of inner stillness.

As an Assistant Professor at Marmara University and founder of Japanese Islamicate Art, Dr. Yamamoto’s work uniquely bridges the cultural worlds of Türkiye and Japan.

ABOUT DR. NAOKI YAMAMOTO

Dr. Naoki Yamamoto is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Turkic Studies, Marmara University, and Director of the Institute of Muslim Societies and East Asian Civilizations. His research focuses on Ottoman Tasawwuf, traditional Japanese culture, and Sino-Islamic thought. His major works include Introduction to Tasawwuf: The Way of Training (Shueisha, 2023), a Japanese translation of Sulamī’s Kitāb al-Futuwwa, and the forthcoming English translation of Liu Zhi’s Wugong Shiyi (Fons Vitae).
