Event description

Description

In 1845, two ships set sail from Britain on a mission of exploration. Three years later, both disappeared in the Arctic. Not one of the 129 men on that expedition returned from the North, and the battered wrecks of these ships, HMS Erebus & HMS Terror, weren't uncovered until 2014 and 2016, respectively.

Join us at Glenbow, as we host Brandy Lockhart, an underwater archeologist with Parks Canada, whose work involved the survey and excavation of the Arctic sites of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus. Lockhart's lecture will provide a history of the ill fated Franklin expedition followed by an overview of the epic search for the wreck sites of the lost ships.

Brandy Lockhart holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University with a double major in Biology and Anthropology, as well as a Masters in Maritime Archaeology from Flinders University in South Australia in 2006. Through her work and volunteering Brandy has had the opportunity to participate in several fascinating projects on archaeological sites such as the wrecks of the Hamilton and Scourge, the Red Bay National Historic Site of Canada and more recently the Franklin Project.
