Therapy Abuse & Exploitation: What is It?
Overview
If you’ve attended before, you’ll notice changes in structure, fee, and length. The core material and the opportunity to ask questions remain the same.
------
This is a 1.5-hour online Zoom workshop for people with lived experience of mental health challenges who have concerns about harm, abuse, or exploitation in therapy.
The workshop includes approximately 25 minutes of video presentation, interspersed with question and answer periods. The format is educational, with space for peer support and shared reflection. The workshop covers: therapy abuse and exploitation, grooming, types of exploitation, what happens during termination, and the impact on survivors.
The session is facilitated by Bernadine Fox, award-winning mental health advocate, peer support worker, radio host of ReThreading Madness, author of Coming to Voice: Surviving an Abusive Therapist, and survivor of therapy abuse and exploitation. Bernadine will address common questions that arise around harmful therapy experiences and offer guidance on language, understanding what happened, and locating relevant resources.
This is a trauma-informed event:
- Cameras are optional
- You may use any name you choose
