CanWES is happy to announce our headliner for the night:

THE NEW GROOVEMENT !

With support from POSH COAT and DEVIL WOMAN!

In 2008 the Canadian World Education Society - CanWES - built the Everest English School in the remote village of Sanitar, Nepal. We are the sole fundraising provider for its operation and maintenance, supporting the education of over 200 children.

Your participation in this fundraising event enables the school to continue to educate and empower Nepalese youth in this small village located south of Mt. Everest.

We thank you for your support and look forward to sharing the evening with you!

THE NEW GROOVEMENT

For the last decade The New Groovement has been the funk, hip-hop party machine of Victoria, BC. Featuring a full horn section, congas, timbales, guitar, bass and drums - they'll get you out of your seat and onto the dance floor. With current frontman and emcee Shane Blaq bringing lyricism and a soulful swagger, they are committed to 10 more years of funk. To quote Ed the Sock, “this band should be bigger than it is, not like in roster but in popularity.”

The New Groovement has made their mark on BC’s music scene, having been nominated for Urban Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, winning Album of the Year at the Vancouver Island Music Awards, and opening for acclaimed acts such as Booker T. Jones, Five Alarm Funk and Busty and the Bass. They are found regularly wowing crowds at the region’s biggest festivals, and touring Western Canada. They are played on CBC and were previously featured as the Zone @ 91.3 (Victoria) Band of the Month. The band released their first full-length studio album, The Orange Album, in 2015 and their Tired of Waiting EP in 2018. Their current single “The Wave” is available on all major music platforms, and more singles are on the way

POSH COAT

Posh Coat is a great band to see live and even more fun to hang out with after the show. This trio is making waves off the shores of Victoria with their Strokes and Killers inspired Indie rock music. They are quickly being noticed as an up and coming force in the Victoria music scene and are drawing an ever growing crowd of dedicated fans with each live show. The band taps into different influences as they transform their musical ideas into new tunes, all the while bringing a fresh energy to each of their performances.

Posh Coat’s both driving and laid-back styles create a framework for their stories which capture the essence of the everyday and pinpoint the beauty in the mundane. They bring a freshness to this generation’s friction between indifference and fervor.

As a band, Posh Coat is at a point where momentum is building for them and they are truly settling into their own identity and flair. Their music is definitely modern rock that has an emphasis on catchy melodies, an infusion of blues, and thought provoking lyrics. Posh Coat is a young, diverse band with an appealing style and a full trio sound.

After playing for a few years together in Tuesday’s Roadkill, Andrew Whitney (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Tricia True (Bass/Vocals) and Luke Hanna (Drums) have emerged as a tight musical unit with a unique sound and entertaining live show.

DEVIL WOMAN

"Devil Woman" is a term used when dealing with an abnormally aggressive and dramatic female. It is meant to be humorous generally, especially if said in front of the woman.

Lo Waight (Lo Waight and The Rattlesnakes & Miina) named her current project in jest to the idea of “abnormally aggressive and dramatic”, noting that more likely the woman in question is opinionated or strong willed.

Band members Graham Keehn, Glenn Whitney & Daniel Erikson offer intricate rhythms and tasteful guitar parts to truly bring Lo’s soul inspired indie tunes to life.
