TWS Community Workshop: Getting Out of Your Own Way with Tara Bentall King
Overview
Getting Out of Your Own Way: Playful Strategies for Generating and Editing Poetry
Surely fretting over how your poetic diction is impacted by each individual comma is the inevitable, uphill trudge of writing a good poem? It doesn't have to be! In this workshop, poet Tara Bentall King will introduce you to a series of writing prompts and exercises that introduce an element of chance into your writing process, allowing you to relinquish control, embrace play, and jump so far out of your own way, you may not even recognize where you end up. Come play with us!
About Tara Bentall King
Tara Bentall King is an alumnus of the Writer's Studio at SFU, where after graduation she apprenticed for three years under Kayla Czaga and Rob Taylor. She brings this experience into the classroom, where her focus is on creating a space where writers at all stages feel encouraged to experiment, deconstruct, and try new things. Tara recently completed a chapbook about her journey from missionary kid to reluctant heretic. She lives in North Vancouver with her partner and two children.
