Overview

Join us for a three-part workshop to get some practical ideas on how to start, keep writing and finish a long-form project.

How to Long Form with Eileen Cook

A long form project (novel, narrative non-fiction, or memoir) is a daunting undertaking for writers regardless of their experience. This series of three workshops is designed to provide guidance and motivation for each of the key steps in the process: Beginning, Middle, End. The workshop will include discussion and prompts to help writers manage common craft challenges at each stage, as well as exploring how the writer’s interior barriers are impacting their work (or lack of progress). The workshop will blend practical tips, coaching, and writing prompts designed to get you to start writing, keep writing, and complete your project.

Workshop Schedule

This workshop is in three parts:

  • January 25 from 10am to 12:30pm
  • February 1 from 10am to 12:30pm
  • February 8 from 10am to 12:30pm

About Eileen Cook

Eileen Cook is a multi-published, award-winning author with her novels appearing in over nine languages. She’s written YA, middle-grade, and non-fiction on the writing craft. Some of her over one dozen titles include Unraveling Isobel (Simon and Schuster), With Malice (HMH) and Build Better Characters (TCA Books). Most recently, Eileen wrote an adult historical novel under the pen name Kate MacIntosh. That book, The Champagne Letters, was listed by People magazine as a best book of December 2024. She’s an instructor/mentor with The Creative Academy and Simon Fraser University’s Writer’s Studio. Eileen is a frequent speaker at conferences both in the U.S. and Canada. She enjoys working with writers at all stages of their writing journey to find their unique story. Several of her books have been optioned for TV or film, but she hasn’t had a chance to walk the red carpet yet; however, she has perfected her Oscar speech into her hairbrush. Prior to turning to writing, Eileen worked as a counsellor for over 20 years.
