Understanding and Responding to Family Violence in the Context of Migration: A Community of Practice Conversation
The Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration, the Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion, and the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children invite you to join us.
June 29, 2016, 9am to 5pm
Community Room, Althouse Faculty of Education, Western University
We will share expert perspectives and participate in a community of practice conversation regarding the challenges and opportunities of our work together. Forum objectives are:
- A comprehensive description of current policy & evidence contexts.
- Fresh discussion of approaches to responding to family violence in our newcomer communities.
- Increased sense of community engagement, including a clear vision of the community of practice and their distinct/shared areas of work.
The program provides an opportunity to consider macro-level questions and contexts, including evidence & research needs, and policy perspectives in the field. International and national perspectives will include an overview of gendered migration and immigrant family integration.
There will also be an opportunity to consider micro-level responses, including promising-practice and integrated approaches to family violence in the context of migration. MRCSSI team will share the model currently at use at the Centre. A facilitated group discussion will define the impacts and outcomes that shape this community of practice to create a collective vision forward.
In keeping with the strategic objectives of its organizers, this event aims to increase community of practice knowledge sharing and collaboration, and illuminate emerging research and service priorities.
We hope you can join us in strengthening this knowledge and practice area in our community.
