Welcoming City Community Conversation: Welcoming & Safe Communities

By Coastal Research, Education, and Advocacy Network

Overview

What makes residents feel welcome and safe? How do we all make others feel welcomed and safe? How do we create inclusive spaces?

What makes newcomers and long-term residents feel welcome and safe? How do we all make others feel welcomed and safe? How do we create inclusive spaces where everyone can participate?

Hosted by the City of Victoria’s Welcoming City Advisory Committee in partnership with the Coastal Research, Education, and Advocacy Network (CREAN), this Welcoming City Community Conversation explores what welcoming and safe communties look like. This conversation builds upon the Welcoming City Standards and Strategy.

The evening will open with guest speaker Kemi Craig, who is an interdisciplinary artist, previous City of Victoria's Artist in Residence, and currently works with BC Black History Awareness Society and REP Here in Canada.

A facilitated group discussion will follow, inviting community members to share experiences and ideas for shaping more welcoming and safe civic spaces.

Light refreshments provided by Stir It Up (Caribbean food).
