WeldUp helps internationally trained welders in Ontario meet Canadian standards & launch careers with free bridging programs

This is a free information session where we’ll walk through the WeldUp bridging program, what it includes, eligibility, timelines, and how to apply. We’ll cover everything below and leave time for Q&A.


Are you an internationally trained welder looking to build your future in Ontario?

Skip the retraining and move forward in your welding career with WeldUp, a free bridging program designed to help you meet Canadian welding standards and launch your career with confidence.

Program Highlights:

  • Two Tailored Pathways
  • 20-Hour Direct Certification Pathway: For experienced welders needing support with Canadian standards.
  • 60-Hour Skills Upgrading Pathway: For semi-experienced welders looking to enhance their skills.
  • Program Duration: 5–8 months (varies by pathway)
  • Hybrid Learning: Combine in-person training with virtual components for maximum flexibility.


Training Includes:

  • Welding safety, metallurgy, joint design, and industry codes & standards
  • Hands-on SMAW and GTAW techniques with virtual simulations
  • Employment supports including job search strategies, resume writing, and interview prep
  • 5 Welding Micro-Certifications with CWB Classification


Eligibility:

To qualify for WeldUp, participants must:

  • Be an Ontario resident, 18+ years old
  • Be an internationally trained welder with relevant experience
  • Have CLB Level 6+ in English
  • Hold one of the following statuses:
  • Naturalized Canadian Citizen
  • Permanent Resident
  • Convention Refugee or Protected Person
  • Refugee Claimant with Notice of Decision
  • Provincial Nominee (non-international student stream)
  • Temporary Worker with IRCC approval
