Winter Workshop: Calligraphy with Cody McCallum
Overview
Join us for a beginner-friendly calligraphy workshop led by professional calligrapher and stationery designer Cody McCallum.
In this 2-hour class, you’ll learn the essential foundations of modern brush pen calligraphy, with a focus on the basic strokes and lowercase letterforms that form the core of a strong hand-lettering practice.
Using the Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen included with your registration, Cody will guide you through:
- Foundational brush pen strokes
- Lowercase letter formation
- How to connect letters into words
- Tips for developing control, rhythm, and consistency in your writing
You’ll also receive a take-home beginner workbook designed to help you continue practicing all the skills covered in class.
Note:
This workshop focuses on lowercase brush lettering, which is the recommended sequence for beginners. Uppercase letterforms are not covered in this session, but students who’d like to continue learning can find additional optional resources on Cody’s website.
Whether you’re brand-new to calligraphy or building on your early skills, this class is a warm, encouraging introduction to the art of modern hand lettering.

Cody McCallum (she/her) is a professional calligrapher, foil press printmaker and stationery designer operating out of her home studio in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She brings a personal touch to weddings, events and personal stationery, and has taught the art of calligraphy to 1000+ students worldwide through in-person and online workshops. In 2023, she founded a subscription box for lovers of fine stationery called The Letter Writers Club™.
