Woodturning: Basket Weave Illusion with Carl Durance
By Intersections Wood Collaborative
Overview
May 9, 2026 - May 10, 2026
Basket‐weave illusion is the art of creating the visual and tactile impression of an actual basket‐woven item. In this two-day workshop, participants will apply basket‐weave illusion to a turned wooden platter, by turning concentric circles (beads), burning radial lines, and colouring the resulting grid with a decorative pattern or design.
Topics will include safety, beading tools, design considerations, pattern generation, shop‐made indexing jigs for radial line layout, pyrography (wood burning) for marking radial lines, and, colouring alternatives including archival‐grade india inks. Each participant will have the opportunity to complete a small shallow platter with a basket‐weave illusion design.
This is a two day workshop. Each day will begin at 9:00 am and end at around 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Intersections Wood Collaborative at 299 10th Street E., Owen Sound.
