Woodturning: Segmented Bowls with Carl Durance

Through this comprehensive hands‐on workshop you can learn about segmented turnings, from simple forms like bowls through more complex forms like vases. Basic lathe operation will be reviewed- safety considerations, tool selection and sharpening, mounting options and turning techniques will be covered. For segmented construction, instruction regarding wood selection, design considerations, some simple math, cutting segments, forming rings from segments, layering the rings and finishing will be offered.
Each participant will have the opportunity to turn a segmented bowl during the workshop, plus construct an additional segmented blank. As time permits, various alternative designs, from functional to decorative, may be demonstrated and/or discussed in addition to the hands‐on class projects.
This is a two day workshop. Each day will begin at 9:00 am and end at around 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Intersections Wood Collaborative at 299 10th Street E., Owen Sound.
Suitable for intermediate woodturners
Workshop Cost: $200. Materials fee of $30.00 payable to instructor at start of class.
