We know how intimidating it can be to put together your portfolio and prepare for interviews. We've all been there! That's why we're here to help.
This year's graduating class of the York/Sheridan Program in Design (YSDN) has come together to create a new workshop for students thinking about pursuing graphic design in post-secondary education. We will be sharing our experiences in the program, explaining what will happen during your assessment interviews, and hosting group discussions about presenting your work.
Please bring a selection of your work and your sketchbook to this event. The work does not have to be mounted or compiled in a portfolio, and feel free to bring any ongoing pieces you may be working on. For large pieces, such as oversized painting or sculptures, we ask that you photograph them.
Light refreshments will be provided!
Is this for the York University design program or the Sheridan College design program?
This is a joint program between York University and Sheridan College. It is a single program that offers a Bachelor of Design Honours. With that being said, students in this program are enrolled full-time at both York University and Sheridan College.
Where is this workshop being held?
The workshops on December 10th and 11th are being held at York University on the fourth floor of the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building. For maps, transit and driving directions, download Keele Campus maps. Look for the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building under Academic/Administrative. It is number 39 on the PDF map.
We are currently working hard on providing more workshops on both campuses. For more information, please stay tuned to our social media pages!
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Anyone is welcome to attend the event! However, tickets admit only one person due to limited space.
What are my parking options on campus?
The closest parking to the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building is the Student Services Parking Garage, number 84 on the PDF map. Use the Pond Road campus entrance off Keele St. and turn right on James Gillies St. Parking costs $7.00 (flat rate) on Saturday and $5.00 on Sunday. Because this is a student run event, parking tickets cannot be validated.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
We ask that you bring your top 10-12 portfolio pieces you are thinking of showing during your interview. If you have interactive work (websites, mobile apps), or time-based communication (film, video, sound, etc.), please bring it on a laptop or tablet.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
We have many students waiting to answer your questions! If you have a question about this specfic event, please feel free to e-mail us at email@example.com. For general questions about the admission and application process for York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance, and Design, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
