Collecting Federal GST on the Eventbrite Service fee in Canada
If you meet certain requirements, Eventbrite is required to collect and remit federal tax on the Eventbrite Service fee in Canadian provinces where we don’t collect provincial taxes currently. If Eventbrite is required to collect and remit federal tax on your event, you won’t have the option to collect additional tax using Tax Options. Eventbrite won’t collect tax on fees for events in Quebec and Saskatchewan. To determine tax collection on your events, go to Payments & Tax and select Tax Settings. Then, answer the questions in your tax settings.

Collecting Federal GST on the Eventbrite Service fee
When you host events in Canada, Eventbrite is required to calculate, collect, and remit Federal GST on the Eventbrite Service fee. The rate is determined by the applicable federal, harmonized, or provincial rates as per your usual place of residence. However, Eventbrite won’t collect GST if either applies:
Your usual place of residence is not in Canada.
You provide us with a valid GST/HST identification number.
Complete your tax settings
Go to Manage my events and select your event. Then, select Tax (under Payments & Tax) and choose from the following options:
Yes, I have a permanent establishment in Canada, and I have a GST/HST number: enter your valid GST/HST identification number. Eventbrite will not calculate, collect, or remit federal tax on fees for the sales from this event. If you are required by any regulations to collect other GST/HST, you can add a Tax Option.
No, I have a permanent establishment in Canada, but I don’t have a GST/HST number: Eventbrite will calculate, collect, and remit federal tax on fees for the sales from this event as required by the applicable Canadian tax laws. Select the province where your event is located. The tax rate is determined by the province you select. You won’t be able to collect additional tax using Tax Options.

How Federal GST collection on the Eventbrite Service fee affects your payouts
Based on the option you select in your tax settings, collected GST may impact your payout:
If Eventbrite is required to collect and remit federal GST: By default, fees and tax are paid by the attendee and will not reduce your payout. However, if you select Absorb fees when you create your tickets, the fees and tax won’t be paid by your attendees and will reduce your payout
If Eventbrite is not required to collect and remit GST: You can choose to collect tax using Tax Options. By default, your attendees will pay tax on top of their ticket price. However, if you select Absorb tax in Tax Settings, the tax won’t be paid by your attendees and will reduce your payout.
