Melbourne Writers' Theatre

Founded in 1982, Melbourne Writers’ Theatre exists to foster new theatre writing in Victoria. We support aspiring, emerging and established playwrights in the creation of new plays, and provide opportunities for the further development of their playwriting skills, interests and careers. Our annual calendar includes monthly workshops, the playwriting programs Page to Stage and Gasworks Script Lab, and theatrical seasons such as Metropolis Monologues and Who I'm Doing This For. We also administer The Amethyst Award, awarded in 2025 to Who I'm Doing This For. As a member-based organisation, we welcome applications for membership from playwrights at all stages of their career, at any time of the year.
