Description

PHO Grand Rounds:

Support for Workers Who Smoke: Findings from the Ontario Workplace Cessation Demonstration Projects

Between 2012 and 2014,the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care provided one-time funding to 11 Public Health Units (representing 19 health unit partners) to develop and implement workplace-based tobacco use cessation demonstration projects in manufacturing, construction, hospitality/service and mining sectors.

The Ontario Tobacco Research Unit worked with project stakeholders to lead the evaluation of this initiative. This presentation will discuss barriers and facilitators to developing and implementing workplace cessation programs, and factors that influence outcomes.

The findings support the use of work-place based approaches to cessation, and inform the development and implementation of these programs for maximum effectiveness.
